Set up an eSIM on Samsung: SIM Manager and mobile data

On a supported Samsung Galaxy, you would normally add the travel eSIM via Settings → Connections → SIM manager → Add eSIM. Menu names may vary depending on One UI and the sales region. First check device compatibility, especially the exact model number.

Before scanning

A Galaxy model family alone is not sufficient proof: region, device variant, and carrier can affect eSIM functionality. Your phone must be unlocked for the travel provider. Have a stable internet connection and the installation details from your order ready.

Also check the plan's activation policy. Depending on the package, validity starts at purchase, installation, or the first connection to a supported network. Therefore, install it at the stated time. Downloading a profile early is not consequence-free for every plan.

Adding the profile

Open Settings, then Connections and SIM manager.
Select Add eSIM and the available QR code option.
Display the QR code on another screen, or use an installation alternative supported by the device and provider.
Confirm the download and wait for the new profile to appear in SIM manager.
Give the line a clear name, such as “Travel”. Give your home line a different name.

If the camera does not recognize the code, the QR code guide provides a systematic checklist. Only enter manual activation details if they were actually provided. Do not try arbitrary codes or APN values.

Which SIM should provide data?

In SIM manager, select the travel eSIM as the preferred line for mobile data. Configure calls and SMS separately. A data-only package cannot handle regular mobile calls. Whether a plan includes a phone number, calls, or SMS is stated in its service details.

Depending on the software and model, you can find the roaming setting under Connections → Mobile networks or under the relevant line. Enable data roaming for the travel eSIM if its instructions require it. Check the selected data SIM and turn off automatic data switching. Your home line should not incur unintended mobile data charges.

Check after arrival

For a brief connection test, turn off Wi-Fi and open a simple webpage. Test only in an included country with a valid plan. If no connection is established, check the profile status, data line, and the supplied network or APN instructions. The general installation guide helps you compare the settings.

Do not delete an existing profile as your first troubleshooting step. Reinstallation or transfer depends on the provider. Samsung's transfer features do not automatically support every travel eSIM either.
