Set up an eSIM on Google Pixel and use it as your data SIM

On a compatible Pixel, set up an eSIM via Settings → Network & internet → SIMs → Add SIM. Select eSIM setup there and follow the steps displayed. Before purchasing, use the compatibility check; features vary by model, region and provider.
Requirements and the right time
Check the exact Pixel variant and whether it is unlocked for other mobile providers. Have a stable internet connection and your order details ready. The fact that a device can store multiple profiles does not mean they can all be active at the same time.
Read the activation rule before downloading. The plan validity may start at purchase, installation or the first supported network connection. If your package starts upon installation, downloading it too early will already use up part of your travel period. Follow the time recommended for that plan.
Install the profile
- Open Settings and go to Network & internet.
- Go to SIMs and select Add SIM or Set up eSIM.
- Use the QR code method offered or an alternative provided by the provider.
- Confirm the setup and check that the profile appears in the SIM list.
- Clearly label your home and travel lines.
The individual screens may vary depending on the Android version and provider. If the QR code is on the same phone, a second screen can help. Use manual details only if they are included with your order. Find further options in the QR code guide.
Separate mobile data, calls and SMS
Select the travel eSIM for mobile data. Set the preferred line for calls and SMS separately. A data package does not provide traditional mobile services unless they are explicitly included. On supported Pixel devices, you may be able to use two eSIMs or one physical SIM together with one eSIM, depending on the model and provider.
Open the travel line settings and enable roaming if the provider instructions require it. Keep data roaming for the home line switched off and check the options for automatic data switching. Which settings are visible depends on the device.
Connection test at your destination
Check whether your current country is included in the package and whether the validity period is still active. Turn off Wi-Fi briefly for a test and load a simple webpage. If it does not work, check the selected data line, remaining allowance and any Android data limit you may have set yourself.
Change the APN or network only according to the instructions provided. Do not delete an existing profile prematurely. The installation guide helps you review the steps again without requiring a new installation.
Frequently asked questions
Can I store multiple eSIMs? Storage capacity and the number of lines that can be active simultaneously are different things. Check the technical documentation for your specific Pixel.
Does 5G have to be displayed? No. A working LTE connection can be normal. The available technology depends on the network, plan, location and device.
Can I move the profile to a new Pixel? Only if the provider supports transfer. An available transfer screen does not guarantee that every travel eSIM can be transferred.
